Welcome to Year 4!
Our class teacher is Mrs Needham and our learning support assistant is Ms Kauser.
In Year 4, our day starts at 8.45am. We have a break in the morning when we can buy fruit and milk from the Snack Trolley at 10:20. We have our lunch break at 12.15pm, when we play out until 12.45pm. We then eat our lunch and return to class at 1.00pm. Our day finishes at 3.15pm.
Our Writing lessons this year will follow fiction, non-fiction and poetry units of work using ‘The Write Stuff’ by Jane Considine. This system focuses on a clear, step-by-step approach to help students become more successful and confident writers. Our Reading lessons will focus on fluency, which involves developing the flow, pace and sound of reading. Alongside developing our comprehension skills, which demonstrates our understanding about what we have read. We will now be following the ‘White Rose’ Maths scheme alongside LBQ (Learning By Questions) for our mathematical units of work. In Year 4, children have to complete a statutory times table check, therefore there will be a regular emphasis placed on developing quick recall of multiplication and division facts.
In Year 4 we continue to develop subject knowledge and skills in the curriculum areas of; Science, History, Geography, Art, D&T, RE, PSHRE, PE, MFL (French) and Computing.
Our wider curriculum will be taught in blocks throughout the year, please see the curriculum overview for more information. Our blocks will cover a range of wonderful topics such as Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Electricity and Deserts.
This year we will also have an opportunity to meet and work in collaboration with children from St Thomas Werneth which is very exciting.
This year:
Brass and PE will take place on a Monday.
Swimming will take place on a Friday.
Reading book bags can be taken home each day and brought back into school, we aim to listen to all children read on a 1:1 basis weekly as well as in their reading lessons. Some children are daily readers. We expect children to read at home daily for at least 15 minutes.
Other homework will be allocated on Friday. It may consist of spelling on EdShed, times tables on TTRS or other maths practise on LBQ. Children have their own logins for these sites, a copy can be sent home.
