Health Champions
This term's Health Message is Happy Me. In March the Health Champions, with the support of Mr Bennett, talked to the children in assembly about stress and anxiety - what causes it and what we can do to lower it. They also talked about the importance of getting enough sleep and how much sleep you need at each age

School council 2019-20
St Hugh’s school council are children from years 3 to 6, who have been elected by their class, to represent their views and ideas. The school council meets regularly to discuss school issues and to share the opinions of their class from class council meetings.
The school council is involved in school decision making, and take a key role in fundraising and supporting and sharing key messages during special events such as friendship week, health and well-being week and e-safety days.
They are doing a fantastic job listening to children in order to improve our school, representing the school and thinking of ways to communicate locally and globally.
Our 2019-20 School Council representatives are:
Avesta and Enitan - Year 3
Tiffany and Gerald - Year 4
Taylor and Jake - Year 5
Lucie, Bradley, Aaliyah and James - Year 6
On the 25th November they will attend their first event as school Councillors to participate in a Linking project event at the Council Chambers in the Civic Centre. During the day they will work with the School Councillors from Alt and Roundthorn schools to develop their leadership skills.
School Council Leadership Day 2019
On the 25th November the School Council attended a Linking Project Leadership Day at the Council Chambers. They spent the day with the School Councillors from Alt Academy.
They worked on developing their leadership skills and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
The first exciting thing that happened during the day, was to meet the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jenny Harrison and the Youth Mayor, Samah Khalil. They both spoke to the children and answered their questions.
For the rest of the day the children engaged with leadership activities to enhance their leadership skills. They focused on team work, communication, being respectful and resilient.
The children had a wonderful and inspiring day!
Cosy Slipper day 29th November
The School Council decided that this year they wanted to run a Chocolate Tombola at the school Christmas Fair. So, in order to gather the donations for this, they decided to hold a cosy slipper day in school. Thank you so much to the whole school community for taking part and for the kind chocolate donations.
School Council Leadership Day - 16th November 2018
On the 16th November the School Council attended a Linking Project Leadership Day at the Council Chambers. They spent the day with the School Councillors from Alt and Roundthorn Schools.
They worked on developing their leadership skills and thoroughly enjoyed the day.
The first exciting thing that happened during the day, was to meet the Mayor, Councillor Javid Iqbal. He spoke to the children and answered their questions. His motto was; ‘Inspire to Aspire.’
The School Councillors from the three schools explained that the benefits of the Linking Project were:
- Collaboration
- Friendship
- Team Building
- Communication
- Fun
The School Councillors from the three schools explained that the reasons why the schools were involved in the Linking Project were:
- To learn about other communities, places and people in Oldham
- To share knowledge
- To learn respect for others
- To learn to interact with others
- To communicate with new people
- To Embrace other cultures and celebrate diversity
- Making friends
- Learning about similarities and differences
The children then completed an enterprise project to design a linking project badge and slogan. The designs were amazing, as were the slogans and we can’t wait to find out the winners. See below some pictures of the day.
