Welcome to St Hugh’s Nursery
Welcome to our Nursery – we’re so happy you’re here! Mrs. Glenn and Miss Norton can’t wait to work with you and your child to make sure they get the very best start to school life.
Nursery is the beginning of such an exciting adventure, and we want to make sure it starts off in the right way. At the beginning of the year we spend lots of time getting to know the children (and families too!) so that everyone feels happy, settled, and ready to shine. We believe children do their best when school and home work closely together.
A big part of what we do is all about language and communication. These skills are the building blocks of learning, and we love helping children grow into confident communicators. We use a set of carefully chosen “core books” to spark a love of stories and reading, while also boosting vocabulary and understanding. You’ll see which books we’re focusing on in our half-termly curriculum updates – perfect for borrowing from the library and enjoying together at home.
We also make sure there are plenty of fun activities to help with both fine and gross motor skills. From climbing and running outdoors to engaging activities indoors, there’s always something to support growing bodies and busy hands. We also use the Squiggle into Wiggle program, which is a playful way of building the movements children need for early writing.
On top of our daily learning , we have PE with Mr. Hatton every Monday and Musical Beginnings with Mrs. Brocklehurst every other Wednesday – both always a highlight of the week!
Starting Nursery is a really special time for both children and their families. We’re so excited to get to know you and to make sure your child’s first steps in school are happy, fun, and full of growth.
