Our class teacher is Mrs Parkinson (Tuesday – Friday) and our teaching assistant is Miss Morgan-Fox and we will have Mrs Kauser and Miss Broadbent too. Mrs Williams and Mrs Harding teach Year 3 on a Monday.
This year:
• PE is on a Monday
• Music is on a Wednesday with Mrs Brocklehurst.
Reading
We read every day in Year 3 either through silent reading or through our class novel. We really enjoy listening to stories being read to us.
Your child will have their reading book changed at least once a week, if it is clear your child has read the book at home when asked questions or the school diary is signed. It is important that your child reads as much as possible (with an adult or older sibling) at home, in order for them to reach their full potential.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask, the best way to do this is to phone the office.
Homework
Homework is completed through EdShed and will be set every Wednesday after our Spelling lesson in school and will need to be completed by the following Tuesday.
Sometimes additional paper homework will be sent as and when needed if something we need more practice on comes up.
Autumn 1
This term we have already learnt about the Stone Age and Bronze Age and we really enjoyed learning about this period of prehistory. We made antler headdresses, learnt about Stonehenge from the Neolithic period and then learnt about the life of a bronze sword from the Bronze Age. It was tricky but we enjoyed it.
We will also learn about Light and Dark in Science – looking at light and how it works and what dark means. We will be looking into how mirrors reflect what they say and spend some lessons looking and manipulating shadows.
We will also complete an Art unit called ‘Drawing: Growing artists’ this half term.
In English we are reading ‘Mr Pusskins’ by Sam Llyod and we’re enjoying reading this story bit by bit.
In Maths we have been looking at mental addition and using number bonds to help us answer addition and subtraction questions quickly.
